Suspected hoodlums raze Police station in Umahi’s hometown

There was pandemonium in Uburu community, the hometown of the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, and the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi, as suspected hoodlums invaded the area on Thursday and razed down a police station.

The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Philip Maku, confirmed the incidents.

Maku lamented that the suspected hoodlums invaded the station and attacked some police officers on duty, after which they razed it down. He noted that some of his police officers at the Uburu Police Division sustained several degrees of injuries while trying to manage the situation. It was learnt that the burnt police station is located at the back of Dr. Onu’s house.

An eyewitness narrated that the hoodlums struck around 1pm and overpowered the policemen on duty. He further stated that the pandemonium generated by the invasion made the villagers living around the station to scamper for safety while the hoodlums carted away valuables from the station as they set the buildings on fire.

“The same criminals attempted to attack and release inmate from Abakaliki Federal Prisons, but the join forces of the Police and other sister security agencies could not allow them access to the facility,” he said.

CP Maku condemned the attack and urged officers and men of the Command to remain calm while they continue to manage the situation professionally and usual in the state. NewsExpress
