Community mourns as gunmen kill couple in Delta

Gunmen1.fwA man and his wife have been reportedly murdered by unknown gunmen in the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Witnesses said the couple, identified as Chidi and Rita Edebor, was shot dead at Ekwuoma-Abavo community by the gunmen at about 8pm last Wednesday.

The witnesses, who do not want their names in print, explained that sporadic gunshot sounds were heard from the scene of the incident around 8pm on the day while Rita was later found by the roadside in a pool of her own blood and was rushed to the General Hospital, Abavo, where she died.

Chidi, on the other hand, reportedly died from gunshot wounds on the spot.

A little child of about three years old, who was said to be with the victims as of the time of the incident, could not explain what happened but only stated that the two attackers were armed and they wore face masks.

Another witness insisted that the gunmen were assassins as, according to him, they did not enter the house of the victims who were sitting outside as of the time of the attack.

The President-General of Abavo Clan Union, Jonathan Agbejiagwe, while paying a condolence visit to the bereaved family, expressed sadness over the incident which he described as a tragedy that has befallen the kingdom.

He urged the police to step up efforts aimed at fishing out the killers.

Meanwhile, the remains of the victims have been deposited in the mortuary while the operatives at Abavo Police Station were said to have started investigation.

The state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report on Sunday.
