2023: Wike, Atiku feud will cost PDP presidency – Adeyanju

As Nigeria inches closer to the 2023 general elections, there is no end to the leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The leadership crisis rocking the party might lead to the PDP losing the 2023 presidential election.

since the party’s presidential primaries in February, PDP has been enmeshed in a leadership crisis.

The emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate and his choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate worsened the crisis.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, who came second during the primaries, is aggrieved that Atiku ignored him and picked Okowa as his running mate.

As the crisis increased, Wike’s camp demanded the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

Despite moves by Atiku’s camp to pacify Wike’s camp, the latter has been adamant, insisting that its demand must be met.

Commenting on the issue, a socio-political analyst, Deji Adeyanju, said the crisis between Wike and the party’s leadership would affect PDP’s chances in 2023.

Speaking with Adeyanju said: “Yes, of course, I think so because I think Atiku and his campaign team have moved on from Wike, so no matter the noise he makes, they don’t care anymore.

“Wike is overdoing it and he has made his point; there is no need to go back and forth on the same issues; it looks childish.

“And of course, the grievance with Atiku is going to definitely affect the chances of PDP, because there is no way a divided house will stand.”
