Head of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Digital Media, Tony Ehilebo, has expressed concern over the face-off between the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and former federal lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye.
Dino, who is aspiring to clinch the party’s ticket for the November 11 governorship election, came under verbal attack a few days ago when the Rivers State governor opposed his ambition.
Wike, leader of the G-5 governors, who failed to support their presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar during the presidential poll, stressed that winning the governorship poll is not by acting drama on Television.
He said, “If you give Dino the governorship ticket, you know he will fail; there is no way he can win. Why will Kogi people say they would vote for a candidate like Dino?
“People can’t vote for Dino because he is from Kogi; Dino does not have what it takes to govern the state or be a governor. It’s not by coming on television to act drama or insult Wike.”
Corroborating the governor’s stance, the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP also trolled Dino, saying the governorship aspirant will soon know that “khaki no be leather.”
PDP Director of Publicity in the state, Ogbonna Nwuke, who spoke with journalists, described Dino Melaye as a wet doll, saying the former lawmaker will learn his lessons after the poll.
Melaye, on his part, lambasted the governor, linking their rift to Wike’s inability to become Atiku’s running mate during the election.
Dino alleged that Wike was only fighting him and Atiku because the latter chose Gov Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate despite entreaties from Wike.
According to Dino, Wike called him about 19 times in two hours, appealing to him to convince Atiku to announce him as the vice presidential candidate.
Ehilebo decried Wike’s utterances and his flamboyant moves in the party, saying the belief that Wike “can misbehave and nobody can call him to order, is impossible”.
He said, “Thinking he can stop Dino is an abnormality; is Wike from Kogi State? What warranted him calling media houses and berating a candidate of his own party? What necessitated that?
“If he has issues or he wants to support another person in Kogi State, he should know how to do that. This belief that he can misbehave and nobody can call him to order, is impossible.
“Dino himself should not have given a response. He could have issued a statement but shouldn’t toe the same part with Wike.
“The Kogi issue is internal, if Wike wants to support a candidate, he should empower someone in the state who can speak up for him, not himself. This is an insult to Kogi people”.
