Fraudsters have created X (formerly Twitter) pages using the name of Cross River State deputy governor, Peter Odey to scam unsuspecting members of the public.

Odey’s press Secretary, Fred Abua, raised an alarm on Thursday following a report in a national newspaper, which quoted Odey as having rallied public support to defend suspended minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, Dr Betta Edu over the N585 million saga.

“He doesn’t have a Twitter account”, he stated in his statement.

He added that, “This thing is run by scammers. His Excellency is only on Facebook for now!

“These impostors aren’t stopping. We have written disclaimers but they keep opening more and more new social media accounts, claiming to be one high profile personality or the other. The end is just to defraud the unsuspecting public.”

Abua insisted that his boss could not have made any public statement about the ongoing investigation into the said N585 million when the state government has not taken a position.

The particular post on X credited to Odey read: “Dear Dr Betta Edu, you shall come out strong! We’re with you. I trust Mr President to do a thorough investigation on this matter. Betta Edu is Better.”
