Supreme Court judgement: Robbery, coup on people – Aisha Yesufu laments Nasarawa ruling

A popular socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has slammed the Supreme Court judgement on the governorship election in Nasarawa State.

Supreme Court, on Friday, affirmed the election of governor Sule Abdullahi of Nasarawa State with the dismissal of the petition instituted against the election by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate, Emmanuel David Ombugadu.

The court upheld the governor’s election on the ground that the allegations made against it were not established.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun in a lead and unanimous judgment, said that the petition of the PDP and Ombugadu cannot be attached with any probative value.

In reaction, Aisha claimed the ruling was a robbery.

She wrote on X, “Nasarawa people were robbed of their mandate.

“This is a coup on the people. They chose who they wanted and they were denied their mandate.

“It is another sad day for democracy in Nigeria.”
