Ondo guber: APC aspirant warns party against fielding wrong candidate

Ahead of the primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on April 20, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the party, Jimi Odimayo, has appealed to the leadership of the party to resist the temptation of fielding a candidate with a one-term limit.

Odimayo expressed concerns that other opposition parties might capitalise on the lapse during the November 16 election.

The current House of Representatives member representing Okitipupa/Irele federal constituency urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to reconsider his ambition in the interest of both the southern senatorial district and the ruling party.

Odimayo stressed that the constitution forbids Aiyedatiwa from being sworn in for a third term in office.

“If you attempt to bring anybody that is short of eight years, we would struggle in the next election; if you flag off anybody who is not up to task, especially someone who would not do eight years, people would not support us.

“Our leaders should not be sentimental because people are watching. We, in Ondo south, will ensure that APC doesn’t produce anybody that would be questionable or challenged by the opposition party.

“We are going to address our challenges as a party; we are not going to make a mistake. The APC is the predominant party in Ondo State.

“Basically, it is the turn of Ondo South, and the party would not play with it; we want the party to utilise this opportunity; we have eight years.

“We will not tolerate anything less than eight years for Ondo South. So, we should be very careful not to go into trap with our enemies,” he said.
