customsThe Nigeria Customs Service, Ports & Terminal Multiservice Limited Command, has reported a total revenue collection of N288bn between January and November 2024.

The command noted that this figure represents a 34.8 per cent increase compared to the N213bn collected in the same period in 2023.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Yakubu, shared this in a statement released on Friday.

Yakubu revealed that the command set a new monthly revenue record in October 2024, with a collection of N44bn

The Customs Area Controller overseeing the command, Tenny Daniyan, described the October revenue as the highest in the command’s history.

Daniyan expressed confidence in the ability of the officers and staff to exceed this record, attributing the success to the hard work of officers, the compliance of port users, and the cooperation of other government agencies at the port.

However, Daniyan noted that some seizures were made during the review period, with three detained suspects granted administrative bail. The seized items have a duty-paid value of N28.4m.

The items were discovered in a 40ft container, registration number ACLU9664782, and included 2,598 used motor tyres, 12 used washing machines, six used fridges, eight used motor radiators, 36 used rim covers, eight used rugs, two used mattresses, and two bags of used clothes, shoes, and bags.

Daniyan also mentioned another 40ft container, registration number ACLU9810594, which contained 56 bags of premium parboiled rice, 18 bags of parboiled rice, 15 bags of premium rice, 20 bags of premium rice, and 18 kegs of soybean vegetable oil.

Additional seizures included various types of live ammunition, cartridges, and firearms extracted from several vehicles, including a Mazda CX5, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Tundra, and Lexus RX350.

Daniyan urged officers to remain committed to serving the country diligently and to use modern trade facilitation tools such as the newly launched B’Odogwu platform, which is being piloted in the command.

“As we move into the Yuletide period, we will continue to ensure two-hour cargo clearance for compliant Roll-on-Roll-off consignments, maximise revenue collection, and uphold diligent examination to detect concealment, undervaluation, and false declarations,” Daniyan said.
