The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for six new academic programs at Plateau State University Bokkos (PLASU).

In an announcement made during the 92nd regular meeting of the Senate on January 10, 2025, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best, the Acting Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, revealed that the NUC had approved degrees in Medical Sciences (MBBS), Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharm D.), Statistics (B.Sc.), and Religious Studies (B.A.).

The university also received the endorsement of professional bodies for its newly established programs in Law and Nursing Sciences.

“The result is that now we have gotten approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for all of these programs,” Prof. Best announced, expressing pride in the university’s achievements.

The approval follows a series of resource verification visits conducted by the NUC last year to assess PLASU’s readiness to offer these new programs.

Prof. Best credited the success to the support of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, whose commitment to the university’s growth has played a crucial role in achieving this milestone.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Governor for his steadfast support of the university’s progress,” he said. “This achievement would not have been possible without his leadership and dedication.”
