Obi remains Labour Party member – Baba-Ahmed

The 2023 Labour Party Vice-Presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, says former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has not left the party.

Baba-Ahmed made this declaration while addressing journalists after the party’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, which was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Baba-Ahmed dismissed reports suggesting that Obi had dumped the Labour Party.

“To the best of our knowledge, our brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, is still a member of the Labour Party. Nothing has changed. If he were here now, I would have shifted my seat to the left for him,” he said.

According to him, the party had survived its internal troubles, adding that the development signalled better days ahead.

He also described INEC’s attendance at the meeting as a major boost.

“The Labour Party has not reduced in any way. We have only increased in numbers. But with the submission of our leader, the National Secretary, we have gone through rough times, as is usual with political associations, and have emerged from it.

“The highlight and major turning point of this NEC meeting is the presence of INEC, which validates this sitting and justifies our presence here. As law-abiding citizens, we strictly go by what the law provides.

“This is a renewed drive for reconciliation, and I am here as a loyal party member to continue to open our arms to embrace new and existing members, to come back and reconcile with the party for the national assignment ahead of us,” he stated.

PDP crisis: Oruruo-led exco dismisses Enugu caretaker committee as illegality

The Barr Steve Oruruo-led Enugu State executive of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has rejected the caretaker committee appointed by the National Working Committee, NWC, to oversee its affairs.

DAILY POST recalls that the committee, headed by Hon Vitus Okechi, was appointed after the Elective National Convention of the PDP, which was held in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

However, addressing journalists on Friday, Oruruo insisted that he remained the chairman of the PDP in Enugu State.

He said the parallel leadership under whatever guise should be discountenanced.

According to him, the PDP Enugu State leadership remained intact undisputedly under the same leadership chaired by him and members of the executives who were duly and validly elected during a State Congress of the party held on the 31st of October 2024.

He maintained that the purported dissolution of the Enugu State Executive Members of the party during a National Congress of the party held at Ibadan was a nullity.

Oruruo said the dissolution contravened the provisions of the Constitution of the party, particularly section 45 (2-4) and Section 47 (6) which expressly provides that the tenure of a State Chairman should be completed by the Vice Chairman and the State Secretary of the Party upon the resignation of the of the chairman which is the situation of the party in Enugu State.

He said, “It has become compelling and pertinent to address you particularly against the backdrop of increasing volume of discordant tunes within the leadership of the PDD both at the national and sub-national levels.

“The motion moved at Ibadan Convention to dissolve a duly elected State Executive Committee of the Enugu State Chapter of the PDP on perceived premise of the Enugu governor’s defection without deference to the express provisions of the party’s Constitution which authorized the state deputy chairman to automatically assume the office of the chairman upon his resignation or removal , was not only misguided and prejudiced but a cruel travesty of justice.

“I hereby implore the party faithfuls, our teeming supporters and the general public to expressly be vigilant as this is only but a glimpse of their mutating theatricals to come”.

Oruruo also said that the motion for dissolution of the State leadership was in disobedience to an order of court which reaffirmed himself as the state chairman of the Party alongside, the Secretary of the Party, Hon. Martins Onyeanwa Ugwuamadi-Eze, in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the party after the resignation of the erstwhile chairman of the Party in the state, Dr. Martins Chukwunweike and the former state secretary.

According to him (Barr. Oruruo), the court order also restrained the National Executive Committee of the party from appointing any other person or persons to take over the offices of the chairman and the secretary of the Enugu State Chapter of the PDP .

His words, “A subsisting court order reaffirming yours sincerely and Hon. Martins Onyeanwa Ugwuamadi-Eze as the State Chairman and Secretary of PDP Enugu State Chapter, in strict compliance with the express provisions of section 45 (2-4) and Section 47 (6) of the the Constitution of the party after the resignation of Dr. Martins Chukwunweike and Hon. Chukwudi Nnadozie was duly served on the National Secretariat of the party via the immediate past National Chairman of the party, H. E. Ambassador Umar Damagun.

“The same order compelling the National Executive Committee of the party to immediately recognize my constitutional right and that of the secretary to serve out the term of the former chairman and the former secretary in line with the constitution of the party was duty served.

“This order went ahead to restrain the National Executive Committee of the party from appointing any other person or persons to take over the offices of the chairman and secretary of the Enugu State Chapter of the PDP.

“Therefore, it is salient to mention that whoever purportedly dissolved the Executive Committee of the Enugu PDP without deference to the express and clear provisions of the party’s Constitution and without taking cognizance to a subsisting order of court is a clear contravention of the law and in contempt of an order of court.”

He enjoined all party faithful and teeming supporters to remain steadfast and ignore all manner of distractions geared towards destabilising the party.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholor has vowed that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election in Edo State.

Okpebholor in an interview captured in a viral video vowed to resign if the outcome of the 2027 election does not favour the president in Edo State.

2027: Kano APC endorses Tinubu

Kano State leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The declaration followed a three-day stakeholders’ meeting at the residence of former National Chairman and Kano APC leader, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, attended by representatives from all 44 local government areas and 484 wards of the state.

Umar Idris Shuaibu, an APC leader in Kano, described the gathering as a “strategic demonstration of unity and preparedness,” highlighting Ganduje’s role in consolidating party structures and fostering grassroots cohesion.

“Kano stands firmly behind Tinubu. Dr. Ganduje has ensured the APC operates as a disciplined, cohesive, and mobilised party,” Shuaibu said.

The meeting resolved to maintain coordination across wards, strengthen party offices, and prepare for upcoming elections.

Ganduje reportedly instructed that all local government and ward offices remain functional to accommodate new members defecting from opposition parties.

Osun 2026: APC may face defeat without viable candidate – Omisore

Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has revealed that the party must present a strong candidate ahead of the August 8, 2026 poll, else it will lose.

Omisore made this revelation while speaking during consultations in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas on Wednesday.

He also demanded that the party consider a candidate who had held an elective position to run for the 2026 guber race.

He also revealed that he was urged by stakeholders to contest the 2026 Osun governorship election.

He stated that stakeholders prevailed on him to shatter the incumbent’s ill-governance by joining the race.

Omisore said, “If we fail to give a viable aspirant the ticket, we will fail and lose. We must consider an aspirant who had held an elective position to run for 2026 guber race.”

“We must not leave the party ticket on the free will of an individual to be the governor, it will be impossible. The governorship of a state must be a collective testimony across the board of stakeholders,” he added.

He warned that, “Governorship seat should not be given based on friendship, you should not hire your friend for a job he can’t deliver. All of us who are contesting this race are all brothers.”

The former APC scribe called on party members to support him at the primary slated for December 13, 2025.

He said, “I want to charge all of us that on 13th of December 2025, we should troop out to show love to me by choosing me as the candidate of the party for the 2026 guber race.”

The Consultation Coordinator, Ajibola Famurewa, noted the level of acceptance encountered during visits to various local governments.

Famurewa said, “Every local government we have visited, they showed us love and acceptance. I am confident that Senator Omisore will emerge as the flag bearer of APC on December 13th 2025.”

Abductions: Nigeria Govt making deals with insurgents, can’t deny it — ADC

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, has said the Federal Government cannot deny that it is making deals with insurgents in a bid to free abducted victims.

Abdullahi made this allegation on Wednesday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.

He comment was in reaction to the release of 24 schoolgirls who were abducted by bandits during an attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, GGCSS, Maga in Kebbi State.

“What is clear to us is that the government is making deals with kidnappers, the government is making deals with insurgents.

“Perhaps because there may be different considerations, but perhaps because they want a quick win, they want something to celebrate, then they will not hesitate to make the kind of negotiation or deals that they are doing.

“They are doing deals with insurgents. They can’t deny that,” Abdullahi said.

2027: Oyo APC youths urge Gov Makinde to prepare handover note

Youth leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State have called on Governor Seyi Makinde to begin preparing his handover note, asserting that residents are ready for a new leadership direction ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The statement was made during a press briefing at the APC Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, where the State APC Youth Leader, Comrade John Aremu, said young party members are mobilizing to reclaim the state from the current Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, administration.

Aremu accused the present government of holding Oyo State in bondage and stressed that APC youths are committed to delivering the political change the state requires.

He declared that the ruling party should prepare for its eventual exit, with progressive young leaders ready to assume responsibility

Highlighting recent political developments, Aremu noted that the reconciliation between Senator Teslim Folarin and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, signals renewed unity within the APC, which he believes will strengthen the party’s prospects in 2027.

He added that the upcoming APC Youth Summit will focus on restructuring party units, mobilizing grassroots support, and fostering alignment among young members behind a shared progressive vision.

The summit, he said, will also unveil a youth-driven strategic roadmap encompassing digital advocacy, political mobilisation, community engagement projects, and issue-based campaigns aimed at reclaiming the state.

“The future of Oyo must be planned today,” Aremu emphasized, noting that the youth wing is fully prepared to lead the transformation needed to advance the state’s development agenda.

2027: Nobody can rig us out, we know their ways – Aregbesola

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rauf Aregbesola, has said the ruling government will be unable to manipulate the forthcoming elections, insisting he knows their tactics.

Aregbesola made this statement on Tuesday at the unveiling of the ADC, in Osogbo, stressing that the day marked exactly 15 years since his administration assumed office in the state, an anniversary he described as symbolic.

He pointed out that his party presents a viable alternative to addressing the nation’s challenges of insecurity, maladministration, poverty, hunger and absence of good governance.

“Today marks the 15th year we have been in Osun State, and our government was also sworn in at this very location. It was on a Friday, but today is the day of victory (Tuesday). God has shattered the present Government, and even the Government at the center.

“They cannot rig the election, we know their tactics, go and start taking good care of Old women who have reached menopause, clothe them in good clothes, and let them sit in tens on the election day at different polling units and leave the rest to us.

“They tried their best but God is not with them because they didn’t start with God they are selfish. They have been disgraceful in all standards, in the economy, security, governance, and others. By August next year we will certainly meet in Abere, after August we will take over the presidency.

“There is nowhere in Osun that the people do not resonate with what we represent.

“Our achievements and legacies when we were here continue to speak for us. That is why we get the kind of reception we have anytime we come here, particularly Osogbo, the state capital,” he said.

Ebonyi: Former PDP chieftain, Odeh dumps party, joins APC

A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart and ex-Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Barrister Timothy Odah, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He urged political actors to embrace peace, unity and collective development in the state.

Odah, who previously served as PDP State Financial Secretary and Legal Adviser, announced his defection during a visit to the APC Secretariat in Abakaliki on Monday.

He said his decision to join the ruling party was motivated by a renewed desire to support leaders working for the progress of Ebonyi State.

Expressing deep appreciation to Governor Francis Nwifuru, Odah commended him for creating an atmosphere where every political actor feels welcome.

He said the governor’s inclusive approach had made political reunification in Ebonyi State both possible and meaningful.

He recalled that many people once doubted the possibility of a united political front in the state, but the current administration’s style of governance had strengthened collaboration rather than division.

Odah stressed that political differences must never escalate into hostility, insisting that genuine development can only be achieved through dialogue and collective reasoning.

“There is no need for a battle when we can sit at a round table and solve our problems.

“Even countries that go to war eventually return to dialogue. If our intention is to develop the state, then there is no need for fighting,” he said.

He described both APC and PDP in Ebonyi as one political family with shared history and common faces, dismissing the idea of “winning someone over” as an unnecessary narrative.

According to him, the parties only took different paths, but their roots remain intact.

The former commissioner vowed to bring back the peace-driven politics he had always championed, calling on politicians to avoid violence, especially during elections.

He warned that destructive politics only empowers adversaries.

“If we pound ourselves into the mud and cook our soup with our blood, who will eat it?

“The enemy will eat it. Let’s win elections without violence, particularly in Igbo land,” he said.

Odah urged APC members to be ambassadors of peace, empathy, tolerance, and brotherhood, stressing that political success must translate into the wellbeing of the people.

He also clarified that his long absence from partisan politics was self-imposed to allow younger politicians space to grow, emphasizing that he holds no grudges against anyone.

On development concerns, Odah lamented the absence of electricity and motorable roads in his Ukawu community.

He expressed optimism that his return to active politics would help attract needed infrastructure.

“If my coming back to the party will bring my people these amenities, let it be,” he said.

Earlier, the State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, welcomed Odah into the party, praising Governor Nwifuru for fostering the kind of political environment where all interested individuals feel free to join or return.

Emegha reiterated that the APC in Ebonyi is committed to peaceful dialogue and collective problem solving.

“Not that opposition is not good, it challenges the ruling party to do more.

“But there is no need for a battle when we can sit at a round table and proffer solutions. If your blueprint is to develop the state, then there is no need for fighting,” he said.

Insecurity: APC only concerned about receiving defectors – Buba Galadima

A member of the Board of Trustees, New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Buba Galadima, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government of not being concerned about Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Galadima made this accusation on Monday when he featured in an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.

He said instead of tackling The ills of insecurity, the APC government is busy receiving defectors and destroying opposition political parties.

“The Federal Government has given 99% of its time to politicking.

“Governance, especially in a country like Nigeria, is a serious business. It’s not how to make money but how much sacrifice the leaders would make on behalf of the people.
“If you are a Nigerian president or governor or even chairman of a Local Government, you shouldn’t have more than six hours for leisure, the remaining must be hands on the wheel. That we are not seeing.

“This government is only concerned receiving defectors or trying to destroy opposition political parties. And I want to tell them for the world to know that it’s not in their interest to destroy opposition because without opposition, there’s no democracy.

“And if there’s no democracy, it means we are sliding into fascism and dictatorship. They must put on their thinking cap and do the needful to protect lives and properties,” he said.
