Delta guber: Orubebe, others not behind Omo-Agege defeat – APC

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Delta State chapter has reacted to a publication that the Director-General of the State’s Gubernatorial Campaign and former Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe and other directors caused the defeat suffered by the Party’s governorship candidate, Sen Ovie Omo-Agege.

Dismissing the story as totally mendacious, the APC went on to state in a press statement that the root cause of the Party’s defeat at the governorship elections in Delta State was the widespread systematic and well orchestrated rigging conducted by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in connivance with corrupt officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The State Publicity Secretary of the Party, Valentine Onojeghuo, in a press statement, stated that the said publication (not by DAILY POST) “is entirely fallacious, baseless and a figment of the writer’s own jaundiced imagination, devoid of any journalistic candour.”

He denied the existence of any crisis in the State gubernatorial Campaign Council headed by the former Minister, stating that at no time was there any attempt to sideline directors of a particular ethnic stock as erroneously claimed.

According to the APC Publicity Secretary, the membership of the campaign council was a product of due diligence and exhaustive consideration by the leadership of the Party, taking into account the competency and ability of those that were used to populate the directorates and committees.

He said, “the leadership of the Party zeroed in on Elder Godsday Orubebe to head the campaign council as a result of his long political pedigree, having served as a former State Chairman of a political Party and Minister of the Federal Republic. His competency and capacity was never in doubt and the same goes for others who were appointed as directors”.

The Party also denied the insinuations regarding the mismanagement and misappropriation of elections campaign funds levelled against the former Minister and other directors of the campaign council, describing the allegations as a blatant falsehood without any iota of truth.
