Osun NSCDC confirms kidnap of farmers in Osun

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun State Command has confirmed the kidnapping of six persons in Oyan town by unknown gunmen.

The spokesperson for the Command, Kehinde Adeleke disclosed that search and rescue operations were ongoing for those in captivity.

“Security agencies and local hunters in the community and its environs have been deployed for search and rescue missions,” he said.

six victims were returning from a farm in Odo-Otin North local council development area when the incident occurred.

A source, who proffered anonymity, said the victims were returning to Oyan from Aworo village where their farmlands are located when the abductors attacked them at about 5:30 pm.

A chief in Oyan town, who was also abducted, however, escaped from his captors in the early hours of Tuesday, the source revealed.

He said, “This morning (Tuesday), hunters, police operatives, other security men and volunteers returned to the bush where the victims were abducted. The place is close to Kwara State.

“Around 2 am, one of the victims, a female chief in Oyan, escaped from the abductors but others are still there as of Tuesday evening.”
