Akwa Ibom Assembly probes alleged unlawful sack of five polytechnic workers

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has moved to investigate the unlawful dismissal of five staff of the State Polytechnic, Ikot-Osurua in Ikot-Ekpene Local Government Area.

This was sequel to the petition submitted by the sacked workers to the Chairman, House Committee on Justice, Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petitions, Hon. Aniefiok Attah and read at the plenary on Thursday, August 31.

Attah, while making the presentation under matter of urgent Public Importance listed names of the affected workers to include: Effiong Simeon Dan; Akanama Bassey Edem; Effiong Okon Enidiok ; Godwin Edet Okokon and George Umoren Udoudo.

He said the petition, made available to his Committee was seeking the intervention of the leadership and membership of the Assembly over their wrongful dismissal by the authority of the polytechnic.

However, the Speaker of the House,
Udeme Otong, who presided over the plenary, referred the matter to the House Committee on Education, headed by the member representing Oron/Udunguko, Hon. Kenim Onofiok for further legislative action.

The Speaker also mandated the committee to report back to the House in two weeks.
