Abia: Tribunal dismisses PDP rep candidate’s petition against LP, INEC, others

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, has dismissed the petition brought before it by Chinwe Nwanganga, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and four others.

Nwanganga who contested for the Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency on the platform of the PDP, was therefore, ordered to pay a total of one million naira to Nwanganga, with each of the respondents to recieve two hundred thousand naira.

Nwanganga had, after the election, approached the court with prayers that the candidates of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, and the Labour Party, LP, Ibe Michael Nwoke and Munachim Alozie, respectively, be disqualified for lack of membership authenticity of their political parties.

The PDP candidate, who came third in the February 25 National Assembly election, as announced by the INEC, therefore, urge the court to declare him winner of the elections, claiming to be the only authentic candidate that participated in the polls.

But the tribunal threw away his prayers for lacking in merit.
